Andrew Kelderman Instructor: Bio-Med 2: Honors Chemistry
I am greatly blessed to teach Chemistry in the same school that I am an alumnus of. After graduating from North High, I attended Wichita State University where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and a Master’s in Teaching. I believe in the power of connecting real life stories and analogies to some of the more abstract concepts in chemistry in order to increase understanding. I seek to motivate and empower students with passion not only for science but in life as a whole. If I am not teaching at North High, you will find me engaged with the same types of activities elsewhere volunteering time with clients of the International Rescue Committee, working on community events in my neighborhood, mentoring young people from various backgrounds, and many other activities that involve my family, food, travel, or the outdoors.
Like my brother, I am also greatly blessed to be teaching at my alma mater! After graduating from North High, I attended Wichita State University with the intent of eventually attending medical school. I started tutoring in science at North High, however, and loved the students of North High so much that I switched majors and finished with a B.A. in Secondary Education: Biological Sciences. The Bio-Med program is a merging of these two loves—medicine and teaching high school students. I am currently teaching Bio-Medical Innovations, Bio-Med 1 Honors Biology, Engineering Essentials, and Introduction to Engineering Design. Outside of school you can find me curled up with a great book, walking/wading/kayaking the Arkansas River with my dogs, or discussing the big ideas of life around a fire with family, friends, and alumni. I can’t wait to meet you, hear your story, and work to help you reach your fullest potential!
Brittni Mayagoitia Bio-Med Coordinator Instructor: Bio-Med 3: Medical Anatomy and Physiology, Senior Certifications, PLTW: Human Body Systems I am so happy and proud to be the newest instructor of the North High Science Department and BioMed Program. I taught courses including A&P, Forensic Science, Biology, and Zoology at Heights High School for nearly a decade, and I was even able to take students all over the globe with EF Tours. Before coming to North, I also studied in Wichita State’s cadaver lab, volunteered for the American Red Cross, worked at St. Francis in the therapy department as a Rehabilitation Technician, and worked at Founder’s Circle as a Medical Scribe for a gastroenterologist. On the side, I continue to work as a Group Exercise Instructor and Personal Trainer. I love to travel, go camping, spend time with family, eat good food, and walk my dog! I hope my experiences, expertise, and passion for science and health care inspires the next generation of health care professionals at North High!
Paige Tillotson Instructor: PLTW: Principles of Bio-Medical Sciences Hello! I am Mrs. Tillotson, and I am the freshman teacher for the BioMed class Principles of Biomedical Science (PBS). To tell you a little about myself, I would first like to share with you my love for science and biology. I graduated from Friends University with my degree in Biology, were I focused and took some marine Biology classes that allowed me to travel to the Bolivar Peninsula in Texas and research all the different organisms there. After graduating with my major being in biology and minor in chemistry, I went on to work in a laboratory as the Lead Analytical Lab Technician at an Aerospace company, that makes composite materials. I did this for a few years as I prepared to re enter school to become a teacher, which I knew by the junior year of my college career that teaching is my calling and that is what I would be doing. During my time in the Lab, I learned a lot about the process of airplane making and the small tedious processes necessary in a laboratory to make sure everything is being made just precisely to ensure safety. I have been teaching now for a few years and teaching PBS for two years, This class is definitely a highlight in my day. The hands-on learning and class atmosphere always brings my spirits up and gets me excited to teach. Now if I am not teaching, I am at home spending time with my family. My husband Sean and I have been together since our senior year in high school. We have a soon to be 3-year-old (12-25-19) and are expecting our second son here in November 2022. They are my world.
Jill Pelz Instructor: PLTW: Medical Interventions
I have been teaching for 10 years. I am thrilled to be teaching Medical Interventions for the first time this year. Excited to be a part of the North High staff and the Bio-Med program. I received my Bachelor’s through Wichita State University, earned my Secondary Licensure through Southwestern College and completed my Master’s from Newman University. Outside of the classroom you can find me spending time with my family. I enjoy being outdoors, gardening, summer, and a cold glass of Dr. Pepper.
